Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is a new type of engineering plastics with excellent properties such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, impact resistance, low temperature resistance, self-lubrication and low friction coefficient. It has been used to make shaft sleeves and anti-wear plates of water machines. Under the same working conditions, its service life is 1-2 times longer than that of stainless steel parts, and its impact strength is extremely high. It is difficult to crack no matter whether it is impacted by external force or internal pressure fluctuation. Especially in low temperature environment, its impact strength reaches the highest value. Many materials will crack, damage, break or surface stress fatigue under severe or repeated explosion impact, UHMWPE was subjected to the suspension beam impact test to achieve no damage, it is worth noting that it can also maintain excellent impact strength at liquid nitrogen temperature -296 degrees. The impact strength increases with the increase of molecular weight at first, reaches the maximum value at the molecular weight of about 2.5 million, and then gradually decreases with the increase of molecular weight. Under the action of pressure, it is easy to open into a shear zone, which can absorb a large amount of impact energy. At -196 degrees can still maintain a certain degree of toughness.
